I’m code handicapped. That isn’t news to anyone, I guess.
Last week I decided to place a slideshow on my site’s home. I was a NextGen long time user, so I didn’t think twice and placed it on my header. Worked smoothly on Opera, Safari, Explorer and Chrome. Didn’t show any images on Firefox. I must have read something like thousands of lines of code and support pages. Then, after spending a huge amount of hours trying to solve it on my own, I asked for help at the plugin’s official forum. No one replied.
I decided then to try out another gallery/slideshow plugin and flAGallery looked the best. After installation, I copied all my images to flAGallery, retyped all the info and… Same problem. Worked fine everywhere BUT Firefox. Almost in tears, I read all the comments on CodeEasily site. Ok, 4 days passed and I was ready to throw my computer out the window. As a last resource, without any hope of getting help, I sent the webmaster, Sergey ‘Rattus’ Pasyuk, an email.
By now you can imagine my surprise when Rattus quickly answered, already with some help right on the first email. Unfortunally, it didn’t solve the problem. I gave him temporary access to my WordPress. Tired and stressed, I flooded his mailbox (sorry!) with anything that came to mind. Ignoring my bad manners, this nice, nice, nice man was still willing to help. In a matter of minutes he solved it and not only flAGallery started working like magic, but also did the NextGen plugin.
Considering the (as proved above) effort to maintain a good plugin, I decided to remove the other one and adopt a 100% flAGallery solution. Please note that this is not small work.
Then I was left with the question of placing a slideshow on my home’s header. Remember? It’s how the whole thing started. As previously stated, I’m completely inept to handle code and stuff. Placing flAGallery inside a template is not – for me, at least – easy. It involves some ninja code. So, since I’m also a lazy bastard, I decided to use the great Improved Include Page plugin.
So, Rattus, THANK YOU.
